Mediation Counselling

A Holistic approach to a difficult time

Frequently asked questions

What is Mediation-Counselling?

Mediation-Counselling offers you a process in a safe setting where a couple can air their views and begin to find a way forward in coming to some agreements concerning their relationship.

Who is it for?

The service is for couples who are going through divorce or separation, or who are even considering reconciliation and who want to find an alternative way to disputes.

Why Use Mediation-Counselling?

In finding an alternative to dispute Mediation-Counselling may help you to save not only time and money, but also some of the stress of separation. The focus is not just on the practicalities of ending a relationship, or on feelings alone, but it is to incorporate both of these aspects into a holistic approach with the aim of a positive outcome.

How Does Mediation-Counselling Work?

You will have an initial assessment session jointly which lasts up to an hour. This is so that you can each begin to identify some of the issues that you want to address with the other person. If you then decide to proceed with Mediation-Counselling, then we will arrange up to 5 more sessions of joint attendance to discuss your issues in greater depth and to explore what changes each person is prepared to make in order to find workable solutions. This could involve learning new skills of communication and building on what already works between you. At the end of the 5 sessions you should be able to produce a written, workable agreement that you are both willing to put into practice.

PLEASE NOTE: this agreement is not legally binding.

My Background

I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor with training in community and workplace mediation, as well as being a couples’ counsellor. I work in a Brief Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioural way. Over my years in practice I have realised how many individuals, as well as couples come for counselling whilst in dire straits financially, emotionally and practically. I concluded that a service that offers both counselling and mediation for relationship problems could be helpful when people are working through what is often a difficult time.

What is the Cost?

The initial assessment of one hour is £45 per person, (totaling £90 for this session) Subsequent sessions lasting up to one and a half hours are £50 per person (totaling £100 each session)
